Learn more about LPG

General information of LPG
  1. As LPG is denser than air, in case of a leakage the gas will tend to accumulate at floor level;
  2. LPG itself is non-toxic. However, if excessive LPG accumulates indoors, it means there is less air and oxygen and may cause discomfort or even lead to accidents.
  3. LPG is odorless. A special smell is added to help identify gas leakage;
  4. LPG is extremely flammable.
Storage of LPG cylinder
  1. Gas cylinders should be stored in a well-ventilated place and kept away from flames, electrical appliances and power sources;
  2. Gas cylinders should not be stored in basements or air-tight spaces as LPG is denser than air. In case of gas leakage, cylinders stored below ground level may accumulate and cause danger;
  3. Do not place the gas cylinders near high temperatures or in places exposed directly to sunlight;
  4. LPG should only be extracted from the cylinder using a specialized rubber hose (with a length of no more than 2 meters), and hose clamps must be installed at both ends of the hose. The rubber hose should be replaced every 3 years;
  5. LPG should be used together with a specially designed butane or propane pressure regulator so as to maintain the appropriate air pressure when temperature changes. Please ensure you are using the right regulator;
  6. Please connect the cylinder to the regulator according to the instructions, and only open the gas valve after the regulator has been safely connected;
  7. When connecting the gas cylinder, do not smoke or use an open flame to check gas leakages;
  8. When replacing a gas cylinder, pay attention to the indicators of the regulator and gas valve. If the rubber hose is damaged, please contact your Shell Gas Distributor to replace it immediately;
LPG cooking safety
  1. Please store the gas cylinder upright;
  2. Please ensure that the rubber hose does not touch the gas stove;
  3. Keep the windows open while cooking;
  4. Do not place hot cooking utensils on the gas cylinder;
  5. Do not store the gas cylinder in any area that receives a lot of heat;
  6. Make sure to turn off the valve and regulator after cooking;
  7. Keep children away from gas cylinders and related equipment.
Tips for use
  1. Regularly inspect the rubber hose for any signs of damage or cracking;
  2. Rubber hoses should be replaced every 3 years. Please contact your Shell Gas Distributor for replacements;
  3. The regulator should be replaced every 5 years. Please contact your Shell Gas LPG Distributor for replacements;
  4. Used or empty cylinders should be returned to your Shell Gas LPG Distributor;
